My Story

Granddad.

My granddad used to visit us every other summer from Scotland; it was always a treat to see him and my grandma coming for a couple of week’s holiday.

Always bringing sweets and junk jewellery that me and my sister would spend hours playing with.

I never quite understood the strong Scottish accent and granddad would always recite there’s a moose loose aboot this hoose to me and my sister’s great amusement.

As a child I never really got to know granddad but when I travelled to Scotland for his funeral seeing the collection of family and friends who turned out to pay there respects showed me how well loved and respected he was.

There will always be a place in my memories for this happy old Scotsman who recited amusing poems my favourite being, in yonder hill there stood a coo but look there now it’s no there noo.

My Granddad

My granddad was a Scotsman,
And so I understand,
My fondness for the heather,
And my love for coastal lands.
My granddad was a Scotsman,
And so I'm not surprised,
That my temper comes as quickly,
As do tears that fill my eyes.
My granddad was a Scotsman,
And so I know for sure,
That there's nothing that can ail me,
That a good laugh wouldn't cure!
